Linebacker Connor Barwin tweeted a picture of him signing a new contract

Just hours before free agency gets underway on Thursday, the Eagles released a player who epitomized what every team wants to find on the open market in defensive end Connor Barwin.

“Connor Barwin is a tremendous teammate, player, and an even better person,” Howie Roseman said. “He represented the Philadelphia Eagles with class and integrity for the past four seasons and we appreciate his efforts both on and off the field.

Defensive end Connor Barwin and his Make The World Better (mtwb) Foundation raised $200,000 at their 3rd annual benefit concert at Union Transfer on Friday. All proceeds from the sold-out concert, which were matched by Barwin, will be donated directly to the foundation’s next major park renovation project in Philadelphia, Waterloo Playground (2501 Waterloo Street). The site is located in the West Kensington section of Philadelphia. Over the past three years, Barwin and mtwb have raised more than $685,000 for park renovations in the City of Philadelphia through their annual benefit concert.

Linebacker Connor Barwin knows this well, and on Wednesday he will board the team flight and head back to his hometown of Detroit for the Thanksgiving showdown with the Detroit Lions.

However, that didn’t hold the Eagle back from sharing his story and allowing the cameras into his home. Finding such success as a football player means Barwin has had his fair share of experiences with the media, but nothing to this magnitude.

Earlier this week, linebacker Connor Barwin tweeted a picture of him signing a new contract. On Friday morning, Barwin was a guest on the 94 WIP Morning Show. He explained that the Philadelphia Eagles jerseys approached him about the contract restructure and that there was no negotiation. The Pro Bowl and second-team All-Pro linebacker hopes that this will help allow him to finish his career with the team.

I’ve been in Arizona for just a couple of days and it’s been a great experience. The best part is getting to know guys that you don’t know from other teams, and you get a chance to meet them and get to know them as people, and then seeing guys that you do know and have played with in the past and you have some time to reminisce and enjoy that personal time. This is my first experience and it’s really cool for me.

That’s the general reaction from rookies: It’s a blur. From the instant they arrive in Philadelphia and are picked up at the airport and brought to the NovaCare Complex, the pace is fast and the depth of information needed, at every level, is furious.

“I spent most of my season in the playbook or at the Complex working,” guard Isaac Seumalo said. “It’s all you do. It’s a business. This is my job. I need to be on top of everything to have the kind of success I want to have.”

The 2017 Rookie Class meets at the NovaCare Complex on Thursday to go through a variety of essential steps. They must be fitted for their practice helmets, equipment, and jerseys. They meet with their position coaches and are given scripts – scheme introduction – that they will need to know for the practices Friday through Sunday. Head coach Doug Pederson will address the group as one. Dinner is served. Vans to the hotel are running at exact times.

Jason Peters is the preferred left foot of the NFL

Two more Eagles will be joining Jason Peters and Fletcher Cox at the Pro Bowl in Orlando this weekend, as Jason Kelce and Darren Sproles have been added to the NFC roster.

So they entered free agency in the spring of 2009 intent on doing just that, even if the moves came at a considerable cost. They acted first in free agency, signing Stacy Andrews – the brother of right guard Shawn – from the Cincinnati Bengals. And then in April, just five days prior to that year’s draft, the Eagles struck a deal with Buffalo to acquire disgruntled left tackle Jason Peters, a converted tight end who had been to two Pro Bowls with the Bills and who wanted to be paid as one of the best at his position in the NFL.

It’s fair to say that Jason Peters, one of the premier left tackles in the entire NFL, is right at the top of the list among the MIE for 2016.

Both Kelce and Sproles are replacing Atlanta Falcons players. With the Falcons headed to Houston for Super Bowl LI, center Alex Mack and running back Devonta Freeman will not be attending the Pro Bowl. For Kelce, the Pro Bowl nod is his second as a pro, with his first appearance coming after his 2014 season. Kelce started all 16 games for the Eagles for the second-consecutive season.

He was a first alternate this year and really should have been chosen. One of the things that hurt him is he wasn’t expected to play at such a high level. Pro Bowl players usually have gaudy stats, come from winning teams, or are veterans who have been selected before and have a strong reputation. Graham fell through the cracks in those areas, but his 2016 season really put him on the map. If he can repeat this performance next season, he will make the Pro Bowl.

Additionally, restricted free agent guard Matt Tobin signed his one-year tender Monday morning. In three seasons, Tobin appeared in 30 games for the Eagles, starting 20 of them. He saw extended action as a starter in 2015 after injuries along the offensive line.

The 5-11, 199-pound Gratz was drafted in 2013 out of UConn. He played in 10 games (8 starts) as a rookie and tied for the team lead with two interceptions. He became a full-time starter in 2014 and started 13 out of the 15 games that he played in. Gratz posted a career-high 55 tackles that season. He was released by the Jaguars this past October and claimed by the Rams, with whom he played three games with.

On Friday morning, the Eagles officially tendered a one-year contract to guard Matt Tobin, who is scheduled to be a restricted free agent.

Lovato was a rookie in 2015 who landed with the Packers in a similar situation like he is in now in Philadelphia. A Middletown, New Jersey native, Lovato was signed late last year after an injury to the Philadelphia Eagles jersey china  primary long snapper Brett Goode. He was briefly with Washington earlier this season when long snapper Nick Sundberg was injured.

The Eagles signed two more players to reserve/future contracts on Wednesday – guard Josh LeRibeus and wide receiver Dom Williams.

The 6-2, 310-pound LeRibeus has 12 games of NFL starting experience under his belt. The former third-round pick of the Washington Redskins out of SMU in 2012 played five games at guard in his rookie season including the regular season finale when Alfred Morris rushed for a career-high 200 yards.

In 2015, LeRibeus was moved to center and started 11 games when Kory Lichtensteiger was sidelined with a neck injury. He was in the starting lineup for the team’s four-game win streak at the end of the season when Washington captured the NFC East crown.

The story of Jordan Hicks’ 2015 rookie season is well-known

philadelphia eagles throwback jacket

The last time Eagles fans saw Jordan Hicks on the field, he was racing 67 yards for a pick-six against the Dallas Cowboys in early November, a return touchdown that was extremely important given the 33-27 final score in overtime. Later in the game, Hicks suffered a pectoral muscle injury that prematurely ended a special rookie season in Eagles green.

The story of Jordan Hicks’ 2015 rookie season is well-known. The third-round pick, thought of at the beginning of the year as a depth player who could play a role on special teams, breaks into the starting lineup due to injuries and skyrockets into one of the most dependable players on the Eagles’ defense. His interception return touchdown against Dallas in late November stands as one of the most memorable plays of the entire season.

Jordan Hicks accepts the challenge, and it’s a large one, as the middle linebacker of a defense that will play with a downhill mentality 180 degrees opposite of what the Eagles defense did in 2015, his rookie season. The Kid sure has been asked to grow up in a hurry in the NFL.

We saw it last season, how the third-round pick from Texas who was supposed to have a “redshirt” rookie year was instead tossed in the ocean with no life raft to hold. Injuries forced Hicks onto the field, and he excelled from the jump, igniting an Eagles defense looking for a spark.

He was in the right place for sure late in the first half on Sunday night, dropping into coverage and intercepting Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott as he threw for wide receiver Brice Butler in the end Philadelphia Eagles jersey cheap zone to kill a Cowboys drive. The play turned out to be a big “swing” moment in the game as the Eagles used eight plays to move from their 20-yard line to the Dallas 36-yard line. It gave Caleb Sturgis a chance to kick a 55-yard field goal just before halftime that pushed the Eagles to a 13-10 lead after two quarters.

Does that mean he’s going to hear his name called when the NFL Network has its Pro Bowl Selection Show on Tuesday? Maybe. Maybe not. Hicks is a second-year player who hasn’t yet established his name and his reputation throughout the league, but that’s going to come in time. What we’ve seen from Hicks in 13 games has been encouraging and impressive.

“He’s been playing at a high level for us this year, playing good against the run and the pass,” defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz said. “There’s a lot on his plate when it comes to making adjustments, making checks. We have a lot of calls that are double calls, one call versus one thing, another versus something else. Does a good job with all that stuff. I think he’s been a good, consistent player for us this year.”

This Sunday’s Vikings-Eagles matchup is more than just a game for the Kendricks household. It’s a family affair.

Mychal Kendricks has posted at least 88 tackles in each of his first four NFL seasons. So far, he has only 10 on the season and he’s playing slightly fewer than a third of the snaps on defense.

“I’m taking it one game at a time. Where I’m at as a player as a person as a teammate,” Mychal Kendricks. “You know I’m a true believer that I can only control the things that I can control. When I’m in there, I have to capitalize on the time that I’m in and that’s that.”

In 2012, Mychal Kendricks anxiously awaited draft weekend. He didn’t know which team would select him or what the future would hold. Now, the linebacker is set to be an Eagle through the 2019 season, thanks to the extension he signed in 2015, and has four seasons worth of starting experience under his belt.

With the 2016 NFL Draft coming up, Kendricks discussed the things he’s learned from his time in the league in hopes of passing down those lessons to players who are now going through a similar process. Read what the linebacker had to say about his journey.

Brent Celek has undoubtedly been one of the best tight ends in Eagles history

Philadelphia Eagles jersey authentic

The day after his 31st birthday, Brent Celek has another reason to celebrate. On Tuesday afternoon, he and the Eagles agreed to terms on a new three-year contract that will keep the tight end in Philadelphia through the 2018 season.

A nine-year veteran, Celek has continuously been a dominant force for his team. The tight end has 371 catches, 4,713 receiving yards and 30 touchdowns to his name, ranking him second all time among Eagles tight ends in the three categories. He trails only Philadelphia Eagles Hall of Famer Pete Retzlaff. Additionally, his receptions are also tied for fifth most in franchise history, standing as a testament to the work Celek has put in each year.

In the first nine years of his NFL career, tight end Brent Celek has suited up and played in 143 games. For as physical as Celek has been as a pass catcher and a blocker, he’s missed just one game out of 144. The game came in 2012, when Celek sat out against the Cincinnati Bengals on a Thursday night in December. A shortened week held him back from passing through the league’s concussion protocol in time to play.

“It (ticks) me off, but it’s in the past now,” said Celek of missing the game against his hometown team. “I got my one, so hopefully never again.”

At 31 years old, Celek is participating in his 10th Training Camp with the Eagles. While the veteran has a different perspective and more experience than some of the younger players on the team, he still needs a few days to get adjust to the daily Training Camp grind.

Brent Celek has undoubtedly been one of the best tight ends in Eagles history. He’s the longest-tenured non-specialist on the roster now and is second in franchise history among tight ends in virtually every receiving category, but at the  wholesale Eagles jerseys time of the 2007 NFL Draft, Celek didn’t know what to expect.

Coming out of Cincinnati, Celek was one of the biggest Combine snubs that year, something he says lit a fire under him. When his named was called by the Philadelphia Eagles, he was ready to get to work. Now, the tight end has 4,713 career receiving yards and 30 career touchdowns to his name. Reflecting back on his own draft experience, Celek wouldn’t change a thing. He’s an Eagle through and through.

Now in his 10th professional season (all with the same team, a list that includes only 10 active NFL skill-position players with at least 150 games of regular season experience) Celek’s been there for the peaks, catching 19 passes for 151 yards and three touchdowns during a playoff run to the 2008 NFC Championship Game against Arizona. He’s been there for the valleys – seeing the Eagles go 4-12 in 2012, the team’s worst record since the 1998 campaign.

He’s been through different coaches and different systems. He flourished as one of the best yards-after-catch tight ends in the NFL under Andy Reid. He transformed into one of the league’s best blocking tight ends in Chip Kelly’s high-octane, rushing-focused system. He’s seen coordinators, head coaches and teammates come and go.

Anthony Denham was a rookie free agent signing of the Texans in 2014. He finished his rookie season on the Texans’ active roster. He originally joined the Eagles’ practice squad in October. Denham was released, but returned mid-December.

As the Eagles continue to build the roster for the 2016 season, the team secured a key depth player on Wednesday, re-signing Najee Goode to a one-year contract.

It’s not one of the deepest position groups in the draft, but there are some seriously talented linebacker prospects in the 2017 class. Whether it’s the super-talented top prospect in Reuben Foster, the flashy Jabrill Peppers, the uber-athlete in Zach Cunningham or the sleepers like Jayon Brown and Anthony Walker, there are a lot of names to be aware of this week in Indianapolis. Let’s look at who we expect to shine at the Combine.
